Something that responds

A page that does something when you click it. Your first encounter with behaviour rather than appearance.

Solo project80 minAI pair

Build something small that responds: a tip calculator, a countdown, a colour picker, a quiz with four questions, a dice roller. Small is the requirement, not a concession.

Get it working, then find the line that handles the click and change one thing about it deliberately. Make the button behave slightly differently. You are not trying to learn all of JavaScript yet; you are proving to yourself that you can read and change the behaviour.

Break it on purpose. Delete a line, see what happens, put it back. Nothing here is precious and the backup is one command away.

Then ship it, and put the live URL in the README.

Done when

  • A page that genuinely responds to input
  • One behaviour changed deliberately by you, not by the model
  • At least one error encountered, read, and understood before it was fixed
  • A live URL
  • A note on what broke and what the error message actually said

Nobody marks this for you. It goes into your phase checkpoint, where a person does.

You should now be able to

  • Ship a page with real interactive behaviour
  • Read enough JavaScript to change one thing deliberately
  • Debug something that does not work
