A design review under fire

Present your document to a model briefed as three hostile reviewers in turn, and revise it until it survives all three.

Done when

  • A revised design document with a changelog of what each reviewer changed
  • At least two objections accepted and reflected in the design
  • At least one objection rejected in writing, with the evidence
  • A failure-modes section naming user-visible behaviour for each failure
  • A rollout plan including how the change is turned off

Nobody marks this for you. It goes into your phase checkpoint, where a person does.

You should now be able to

  • Defend a design against domain-specific challenge
  • Revise a document in response to good objections
  • Distinguish objections that change the design from those that do not
