Learning on Web Dev Open is free for all.

What we keep, which is very little.

Your learning lives in your own browser. Signing in adds an email address and the things attached to it. None of it is sold, and none of it is shared with anyone who is not helping run the site.

In your browser, signed in or not

Everything the course remembers about you is written to your browser’s own storage first: which chapters you have opened and finished, the theme and colours you picked, your calendar plan, and whether you have dismissed the notice at the top of the page.

Signed out, that never leaves your device. Clearing site data for this site erases all of it, and nothing on our side notices.

On our servers, only if you sign in

An account is an email address. Attached to it we store a public handle, your chapter progress, anything you submit at a phase checkpoint (a link to your work and an optional note), the approve or reject decision a reviewer made on it, your theme and your calendar. That is the complete list.

No password is stored, because there is no password: signing in is a one-time link or code sent to your address.

Who else sees it

Nobody buys it, because it is not for sale, and there is no advertising anywhere on this platform. Three services are involved in running the site and necessarily handle some of it: Supabase (the database and the sign-in emails), Vercel (hosting, which means server logs), and Google Analytics (how many people visit which pages, in aggregate).

Chat

Chat stores nothing. It shows who is in the room right now and what they say while you are both there; a refresh clears it. Nothing is written down, so there is no history to read back, ours or yours.

Having it deleted

Email webdev@theopenbootcamp.com from the address you signed up with and the account and everything attached to it goes. No form, no retention period, no exit interview. Anything in your browser you can clear yourself at any time.
